Catamount Trail Association The Catamount
Trail Association is seeking a highly motivated professional for a full-time,
year-round position as Trail Management and Protection Director for the
300-mile-long Catamount Trail, a backcountry ski trail running the length of
Vermont. Candidates must have experience in all aspects of land conservation and
trail management and must possess excellent organizational, interpersonal, and
negotiation skills. Responsibilities include the annual fall maintenance of the
trail, recruiting and supervising volunteers, scouting and mapping trail
relocations, coordinating an outreach program with organizations, state, and
federal agencies, grant writing and administration, landowner outreach, and
implementation and stewardship of trail easements. Qualifications:
experience developing, managing, and conserving trails, GIS and GPS proficiency,
comfortable functioning in the backcountry alone, excellent writing (including
grants) and communications skills, experience recruiting and managing
volunteers, familiarity with VT trails and conservation organizations, avid
backcountry skier, ability to multi-task effectively within a small non-profit

Assistant Guide: We are looking for an assistant to help our head guide. The
person that we hire for this position will help with all guided trips and also
guide trips. We are looking for some one who can guide beginner kayaking and
give white water kayaking instruction. A strong role is a must. You will go on
the Expedition Travel camp for two weeks with out a day off. The ability to
guide adults and kids is a must. Professionalism and competence with our clients
is very important. This job starts at the beginning of June and ends at the end
of August.
Camp Counselors: We are looking for male and female counselors with specialties
in: climbing, backpacking, hiking, paddling, rafting and other various
activities for Vermont Adventure Camps for the summer of 2008. Previous
experience with kids is preferred, but not a must. Enthusiasm and energy are
essential for this job.
Camp Counselor/Office Assistant: Same responsibilities as a camp counselor, but
your time will be split in helping the camp director with the various office
tasks. You will only be helping in the office a few times a week so you will
still have plenty of time to go interact with the campers. Previous experience
with office operations is preferred, but we will train you if necessary.
These jobs start on June 15th and go until the end of August or longer.
Bunk House (co-ed) lodging and some meals are provided. Pay range is from
$1500-$3000.
